day 1469: Main Street Serving

“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.”

I’ve said for a while that I believe that the next explosion of small and medium-sized businesses will be the Main Street tech startups that are created to serve local businesses.  This serving will be to give them tools, tech and applications so that they can be more efficient and productive.  This is the beauty of this age.  We can run a small business, have a need that others aren’t addressing because the “market” isn’t big enough, and then get someone to build the app or the database that is needed, and it might be personalized just for you.  It’s not that far off from the days of when farmers would forge their own tools because they wanted and needed something unique to them. We are in the age of attention, and yes, that can also mean attention to the special needs that others have that can be addressed through technology. To me, this means there is plenty to go around if we just are open to what others are asking for.

If we listen and pay attention to others we will open up many opportunities.  These opportunities will come in the form how we can support and serve those that have a need.  This is not only about our professional lives, this is also about how we spread the love of Christ.  When we care enough to listen and follow-up then we will find where and how we can share the gifts that we have been given.  Let’s not miss the opportunities that are put in front of us each day to serve.
