day 1437: Coming Clean

“…People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

In June, right before the U.S. Open golf tournament, golfer Jason Millard, who had qualified for the tournament came forward and revealed that he might have grounded his club in the sand (penalty stroke) during a qualifying tournament he played. No one had noticed and initially he hadn’t said anything but while driving to the U.S. Open location in North Carolina he stopped his car at a gas station and called the United States Golf Association to let the officials know that he wasn’t sure if he had grounded the club or not, but he wanted to disqualify himself.  His conscience wouldn’t let him not be honest about something that no one else noticed.  If we had more people in their jobs, like Jason was doing in his, be this honest we wouldn’t see corporate scandals, lawsuits and legal battles.  Maybe we wouldn’t see car recalls being forced by Congress.  It’s not hard to know the difference between right and wrong, it’s hard being honest with others that we were in the wrong.

When we are worried about telling the truth or admitting a mistake because we are worried by what others will think, or that we will lose something, then let’s be sure that we listen to that voice inside of us that is calling us to be courageous and do the right thing.  God sees all and He works on our heart to make sure that we can stand up to scrutiny and be accountable for our actions.  Is there something today that its time to come clean with God and others?
