day 1471: Undeniable Leadership

“Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will be also.”

Who could ask for more than being called the “Undeniable Leader”?  There are few segments of industry where that can be said.  In the technology world, Google gets the moniker for search.  Facebook gets it for social networking.  But, what we think of as “hot” and successful companies can’t claim undeniable leadership, even though they once held the title.  Undeniable leadership doesn’t come easily, but can be taken away with little notice as competitors sneak up on us.  I was reading the NY Times article about Zenefits and how they have become a very fast growing company in the health insurance brokerage business of medium and small sized companies.  They are upending a traditional and arcane industry, but while they now look like the leader, there is no manifest destiny for them, or any other company.  Even within our companies there are people who we think are the undeniable leaders and then something happens and their results slip, and they are gone.  We can’t, or should expect undeniable leadership. It only comes along in rare circumstances.  But, for the rest of us we can work hard to find our place, improve and work towards being the best we can be.

Jesus should be the only undeniable leader in our lives.   He stands today where he stood over 2000 years ago.  We can count on Him being the same for rest of eternity.  We like to look for leaders who are undeniable.  But, if we look to men and women for this, we will always be let down.  I walked past a cemetery a few weeks ago.  As I passed by, I wondered who was buried there.  Not knowing who, I can surely say that there were those who at one time others saw a leaders that played an important part in their community.  But, like all other things, we pass and those who were once thought of as undeniable leaders, are gone.  We can’t store up the things of the world, we can only look to the One undeniable leader who will always be here for us.
