day 1489: Untethering

“Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “This message you have given me from the Lord is good.” For the king was thinking, “At least there will be peace and security during my lifetime.”

It was big news this weekend when both HBO and CBS untethered themselves from their current distribution and business models.  Effectively, what this means to us is that we can, through our smart TVs and tablets subscribe directly to the networks, bypassing our cable operators.  That’s a big deal for those who want HBO or want to watch The Good Wife, but don’t want to pay a subscription bundle for a bunch of other TV that they never watch or don’t care about.  Think when we finally got fed up with paying $19.99 for a CD when all we really wanted was the .99 cent single.  And so, we enter the age of micropayment TV.  I love it and I suspect that HBO and CBS are only the beginning.

Going it alone can be scary and stressful.  But, sometimes in life we are challenged to do so and there is no other way.  But, we should always recognize that we are never fully alone because God doesn’t untether us and leave us hanging, ever.  These are the times when He desires for us to stay in subscription with Him.  Signed up, seeking Him, and always tuned in.  If only for today, if we can do so, we will learn what it means to be within His care and love.
