day 1509: When What We Say Really Means What We Say

“Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

When we say what we really mean, then we actually do what we say.  And when we don’t, we come across as being dishonest or sneaky.  One of my pet peeves is that when I unsubscribe to a company’s email campaign and they go away for a short amount of time, but then they come back, again and again.  I have two examples of this.  Vueling Airlines in Spain, which I flew once, and will probably never fly again.  But, I can’t get them to go away no matter how many times I unsubscribe.  Hilton Honors is the same.  They go away every time you unsubscribe but every time you make a new reservation they come back. They should know better.  What it does is create the impression that they don’t really mean what they say.  We have to be really, really careful here. From the top to the bottom, what we say, we must mean that and that is demonstrated by what we actually do.

If we say that we love Christ, but we are unable to love others, then are we really meaning what we say? U2’s song, “Ordinary Love” has great lines in the hook, “If we can’t feel ordinary love…and we cannot reach any higher…if we can’t deal with ordinary love”.   Let’s think about this today as we practice loving others.  If we can love others ordinarily well, then we will be proving our love of God.
