day 3K74: Bonus Time

“If all you do is love the lovable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that. If you simply say hello to those who greet you, do you expect a medal? Any run-of-the-mill sinner does that.”

This is the time of the year when many employees are anxiously wondering what their 2021 bonus payment will be.  Soon, there will be conversations happening between managers and subordinates explaining why the payout is larger or smaller than expected.  From these very important meetings employees will be making decisions on their next moves, within the company, or outside.  Some have already made that decision and haven’t told their boss because of fear of missing out on their bonus payment, many which require one be employed and in good standing on the day of the payout. This will be the first bonus payout cycle in the time of the “Great Resignation”.  I am going to write more soon on what I believe the next shoe will be to drop, but for now, let’s be cognizant that these bonus payout discussions will figure into what the future holds for our employees tenure with us.

Bonuses are just that, rewards for going above and beyond what is expected.  What is many times expected is that we are delivering not only more than what we are expected but also what others are delivering.  We are called to go above and beyond, yes, to go the extra mile.  God’s expectation of us is that because He went far beyond the extra mile for us that we can exceed in how we treat others far beyond what those who don’t know Him would do.  As the verse tells us above, even in the smallest of things like greeting each other we can decide to just do what is customarily expected or we can reach further to His expectations.
