day 2610: SSLs

“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.”

I didn’t know what an SSL is, but I keep getting charged for it annually for this website and others I have. I don’t remember when these “certificates” started getting granted, but I’ve come to learn that they are important. If you still don’t know, here is what is an SSL:

“An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate is a digital certificate that authenticates the identity of a website and encrypts information sent to the server using SSL technology. Encryption is the process of scrambling data into an undecipherable format that can only be returned to a readable format with the proper decryption key. A certificate serves as an electronic “passport” that establishes an online entity’s credentials when doing business on the Web. When an Internet user attempts to send confidential information to a Web server, the user’s browser accesses the server’s digital certificate and establishes a secure connection.

An SSL certificate contains the following information: The certificate holder’s name, the certificate’s serial number and expiration date, a copy of the certificate holder’s public key and the digital signature of the certificate-issuing authority.”

Net, a bunch of important stuff that at the end of the day, keeps us a little more secure than we are without one and more so, keeps Google and other search engine companies indexing and allowing our sites to be searched for, which is the point, right?

It is worth repeating here that if we are in doubt, or feel distant from the love of God, that His love is always there, regardless of what we are going through.  I’ve been recently barraged with one problem or another, conflicts and disappointments, but I am reminded in God’s Word that He gives us each our SSL certificate that is just for us personally and he authenticates it daily with us. His SSL is our “Secure, Loving Lord” who always shows up.
