day 2927: Instant

“…Continuing instant in prayer…”

My first recollection of something “Instant” was instant coffee, otherwise known as Sanka.  From then on it seems every few years someone comes up with something else that is “instant”, such as the rage two years ago with the “Instant Pot”.  The ironic thing is that almost as quickly as the new “instant” comes on the scene, it is gone and replaced with something else.  Somethings should be instant, like instant hot water (I must admit that one I really like and enjoy) but in most cases maybe instant just isn’t enough. It’s worth exploring as we strive to deliver faster and more convenient to our customers and consumers what we are potentially missing when we focus on trying to get to “instant”.

The King James Version of the Bible uses the word instant differently when stating that we should be “continuing instant in prayer.”  Rather than the definition – “An infinitesimal or very short space of time; a moment” it leans to the secondary definition, “The point of time now present or present with reference to some action or event.”  What we are being told is that we should be in a state of prayer at all times, ready and at ease to call upon God in every instance.  I wonder how much better we would all be in our work and lives if our first default would be to instantly pray?
