day 2676: Responsibility Beyond Profits

“When you harvest the crops of your land, do not harvest the grain along the edges of your fields, and do not pick up what the harvesters drop.

A few weeks ago the CEO’s of 140 companies came together and restated the definition of a corporation as it relates to the responsibilities beyond profits. You can read that statement here. The cynics have said that the CEO’s did this because of the attack on corporate America right now from all angles.  Maybe this was the driver, but regardless, greater corporate responsibility, no matter how we get there, is a good thing.  We can take our own responsibility, but first we need to want to do so. I hope we all do.

As part of our Faith Driven Entrepreneur podcasts we have had a few guests discuss how they have brought the practice of gleaning into their businesses.  I have been fascinated with this as we can take a Biblical principle, bring it into our workplace and become a leader in corporate responsibility.  If you want to read more about Gleaning, you can read this article from Christianity Today.  It’s  worth the read!
