day 1978: Debates

“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

If you live in the United States and care at all about Presidential politics you have watched the last two GOP debates.  The headlines before the last week’s debate was this, “CNN Hopes for a Combative Debate”.  After watching the debate it seemed that their plan matched the headline, and what does that say about what we take in, or worse think that one needs to do to get attention?  Is it that we must join in combat to make a point? How much of this approach that 23MM people watch shapes how we conduct ourselves in our jobs?  Or, how much does it affect how our young people/young adults think they should behave with each other?  Yes, it does matter and we should care and at least in our workplace we should not follow along.

When we ask Christ into our hearts, we change and we commit to following in Christ’s ways.  If we are caught up in constant debates or a combative spirit are we really demonstrating that it means to be a new person in Christ?  Yes, it is all around us to jump into the debate and stir it up and cause a commotion, but we need to consider who we are before we do what we are pulled to do.
