day 2962: Window Panes

“Many people say, “Who will show us better times?” Let your face smile on us, Lord.”

By now, you know that I follow and think highly of the insights that Seth Godin brings to the world.  Not long ago he wrote about paned window glass and that originally we had paned windows because large pieces of glass could not be produced economically so house and offices had many small panes put together to make a larger window opening.  But now, large pieces of glass can be used for a window and are cheaper to produce than individual panes so window manufactures will be put on pane facades, for an extra cost.  And, we do it because we got used to the look.  It’s a good reminder that just because technology can change a lot in what we have and do, we can still get stuck where we are because we get comfortable with what we know.

We have to be careful that we don’t resist and don’t want to shed what we are used to being when God shows us a better way or challenges us to change.  He is the author and creator of our future and while we might be comfortable in our current ways of working, behaving and living, God wants us to be better and better for Him.
