day 3K272: Hesitate

“Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.”

I hope you had a wonderful President’s Day weekend.

They say that hesitation is the mother of disaster.  That might be true in many cases, but sometimes hesitation can save us from making a big mistake.  How many times have we seen a person or a company rush into something only to find that they weren’t really prepared and what they thought would a great move turns out to be way premature?  So many companies that I work with say they want to be on the cutting edge but when you look at how fast they are rushing, what it looks like is they want to be on the bleeding edge, which can turn out really ugly.  In his book, Sacred Pace, Terry Looper promotes the idea of hesitating. He says that we can benefit from waiting one day to make a small decision, one week to make a big decision and one year to make a life-altering decision.  And he goes on to say that in that time of hesitation is when we will more likely hear and get a better sense of what we should do next.  I think he is right.  Rushing into a decision that could make or break us seems really foolish.  Wisdom feels like hesitating.

I love what the Psalmist is telling us in the verse above.  He is telling us to be patient and wait on the Lord.  And then followed up with to be brave and courageous. Followed up with again for us to wait patiently.  What does that tell me?  It tells me that it takes courage and conviction to actually patiently wait on the Lord.  We are wired to act now but what we are hearing is there is a bolder and more courageous way; just wait.  Yes, just hesitate and wait for Him.
