day 3K37: Watering In

“Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life.”

One of the concerns of the remote/away from office work mode that many remain in today is that newly minted employees, coming right out of school, are finding it hard to understand not only what to do, but how to do it.  If you consider how much of one’s first few jobs were about learning “how” to work, we can understand how hard it must be for someone to feel like they have entered into the work world missing the orientation and learning that they need.  I liken it to a newly planted tree in the back area of our condo association.  The tree stands about nine feet tall so it looks mature on the outside, but in fact, it is still a very young growth.  The gardening firm we use set the water amounts on the tree like all of the other mature trees.  After about three months, the new tree was failing.  That is, until the gardener, once a week, put an open hose on it continuously while he went about the rest of his work.  That once a week soaking perked the tree right up and let its’ root system know it is being cared for.  Yes, we need to be sure that we are doing a good job of “watering in” not only our new team members, but also those who could use some refreshing.

We may be looking strong, mature and capable on the outside, but on the inside more than thirsty and needing our own refreshing.  And, even as strong as we think we are, if we don’t continue to deepen our roots and draw from His waters, we will begin to wilt and not be able to withstand the pressures and challenges that come our way.  So, maybe what we need now is to open up the hose and make sure that we are getting a good watering in of God’s word daily so that we can continue to grow as He desires us to do.
