day 3K226: Ubiquity ≠ Veracity

“Rumors are dainty morsels that sink deep into one’s heart.”

Just because we hear or see it everywhere, it doesn’t mean it is true.  And nothing can move faster than rumors that just aren’t anywhere close to being true.  Social media has been set up to be the perfect medium for things that aren’t true to find ubiquity before it is too late to dispel them with what is actually the truth.  It can happen to our businesses as easily as it happens to people or issues.  We must stand guard and at the same time be sure that we are not part of the problem when we repost or share something that we have not verified.  We can’t call foul on others if we commit the foul ourselves.

This is an area that I know we as Believers can and must do better if we are to correctly reflect Jesus to others.  It starts with us and whether it is at the water cooler, on a chat, Slack, text or social media we need to be the first to verify and seek truth before we become a part of the problem.  What can seem like something little, as the Proverb says, “a dainty morsel”, can cause real damage that if it seeks “deep” into one’s heart, could even be irreversible.  Let’s pray and guard that we are not that person today, or ever.
