day 2153: Guides

“For that is what God is like.  He is our God forever and ever, and he will be our guide until we die.”

As a I wrote once last week, new hire orientations are important and lots of work goes into making them work well.  But, perhaps we should never stop orienting or guiding someone through their jobs.  Think for a moment that we are always learning something new or being exposed to an area where we haven’t worked before.  And how many times do we just do this blindly with the hope that we won’t make such a grand mistake that we cause ourselves to fail, even before we get going?  I’m afraid this happens all the time and then we wonder why so many people fail at their new jobs and we end up blaming it on things like the Peter’s Principle.  Would we ever send someone out into the wilderness without someone who had been there before and could be their guide?  If we wouldn’t do that, then why aren’t we assuring that each person new into a job receives their own guide that stays with them until they are accommodated and proficient?

I hurt for those who try and travel through life without the guidance of others and the guidance of God.  With each passing year I feel like I have stepped into something that is new and requires me to find a guide to help me through.  This year has been exceptionally hard for me with a company that I have been traveling with where I was having to be the guide for others and felt lost without my own guide.  It only reinforced to me the importance of guidance in our lives.  That is why we are promised in the Psalms that He will be our guide until we die.  Let’s today be open to that gift!
