day 2659: On The Ready

“Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.”

With all the political debates and politicking happening right now, it seems everyone wants a sound byte that can be turned into a viral sensation.  Instead of substantive, long form, deep and thoughtful statements, we get the quick and pithy, without substance and many times these days, without truth. We have to be careful that this doesn’t carry over into our workplaces.  We can’t run a business where the best someone can do is to just shoot from the hip and espouse whatever is the first thing to come to mind.

The same can happen with our faith.  We can be challenged or just asked about what we believe and we need to be ready to have a thoughtful and loving response.  To get there, we have to be prepared.  We are taught this in 1 Peter.  If we are constantly researching and reading to be ready to respond at our job or about something in the culture, then shouldn’t we be doing the same with our faith, by reading in God’s Word, being in fellowship and conversing with other believers and also rehearsing at all times for the moment when it is our turn to speak?
