day 1401: Shining Lights

While on a pilgrimage walk on the Camino de Santiago (St. James Way) in Spain, I asked some of the most committed and courageous faith-driven business leaders I know to guest contribute to Purposed worKING.  Enjoy! – Rusty

In Matthew 5:16, Christ says, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

How often throughout the day, particularly at work, do we use this commandment to guide our behavior? Whether it is the manner in which we give feedback, the words we use, or the after-hours activities we participate in, we only glorify God and help bring others closer to Him if those we interact with see and feel the light of Christ through our actions.  Throughout my career, I have found that not only do I experience more joy when I act towards others as Christ would, but that I am much more effective.
God teaches us true principles and if we apply them at work, in our homes and wherever we go, we will bless the lives of those around us and be infinitely more successful than if we don’t, especially in those things that truly matter.
