day 2832: Carrying On To The Future

“…Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often.”

We are coming through a period of time that unless you are over 60 and can remember the 1960’s are as tumultuous as anyone can remember.  Will we come through all of this strong, better and ready for what may come next?  We won’t unless we look at every day as a learning moment that we write down, journal, chart or whatever so that when faced with similar again, we will have history to call upon.  If not for us, then for the next generation of people in our companies and lives so that they can be better prepared.  And, also for us as we all need to see and feel progress, even if it is a little at a time.  I am optimistic that there are better days to come for all of us and that if we learn, adapt, adopt and change then the future might not be filled with the mistakes of the past, allowing us to carry on.

The account of Mary and the carrying of Jesus was not filled with baby showers and celebrations.  Let’s not forget that Mary had a lot of believing and convincing to do to finally get to the birth of Jesus.  Unwed, a virgin, a visit from an Angel, an unexplained pregnancy, a fiancee who had to be convinced, a time of forced (and unhealthy for a pregnant woman that far along) travel causing overcrowding so no place for a proper birth.  How many times do we think she had to say to herself, “Will I ever get through this and what did I do to deserve this?”  She was like us, so more than once for sure.  But, we are told that she kept recalling the Angel’s visit and words to her and she called upon that to make it through the toughest of times.  Mary was a learner and took her learning to carry her on to the future and what an amazing future it turned out to be!  Let’s not miss that we are on a journey here too and that what we learn will make us stronger and also bring us to a better future.
