day 2131: Found

“For the Son of Mancame to seek and save those who are lost.”

Yesterday while in church, Pastor Luis said, “There is no amount of money that one can purchase being found.” An hour earlier, in Sunday School, one of the kids had told me about a time this past week when he had to be brave and not afraid, when his little brother was lost from the food court of the Westfield Mall in San Francisco (our largest and downtown on the cusp of our worst part of town).  Fortunately, his little brother was found by two women who took him to security, where the rest of the family met him.  But even, at such a young age (7 years old), the older brother was telling the story with emotions of fear and helplessness.  Both stories made me think of how the feeling of being found, any time in life, is such a precious and special feeling.  Whether we are found by another person for a relationship, found for a job, or found for something we’ve written, said, posted, or accomplished it becomes special to us.  And really, we can do everything we can to manufacture being found, but it is still something that is more like a gift to be realized, not bought. On the other hand, when we have the opportunity to “find” another person and give them this gift, we should.

Let’s never forget that Jesus came to find us, where we are.  Today He will find us in the office, in that difficult conversation, in the moment of decision, in the cry for help.  But to be found, we must want to be found. So, let’s not hide or deny what He wants to do when finding us today.
