day 2924: Lent Unsubscribe

“The Father loves me because I sacrifice my life so I may take it back again.”

Today, is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent, a time when we start preparing for Easter.  In many traditions, one will choose something they “give up” during this time in memory and as a symbol of the sacrifice that Jesus made for us.  I’ve practiced this over the years giving up different foods, drinks, activities, etc.  I will be doing so again beginning today.  But, what I have learned is that sacrificing, while great, is missing out on the other side of this.  A real blessing can come from replacing what has been displaced with something that brings us closer to God.  So, for me over the next weeks until Easter, I am unsubscribing to social media, which in itself is probably a good thing.  But, the time that I don’t spend on Social Media (which according to my Screen Time averages around 90 minutes a week. It’s good thing they aren’t factoring in pre-election time) will be replaced. So, my commitment is to take the time off of social media and replace it with an additional 90 minutes a week of Bible Study time.  It’s not that much, about 13 minutes more a day.  However, I am sure that more than just good will come of it. We will see.

In the meantime, is there something in all of our lives that we should just unsubscribe from today for and because we want to become closer to Christ?
