day 2915: Searchlights

“The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.”

I’ve always been fascinated by searchlights.  It’s probably why when I was in high school I learned to operate a Follow Spot for our theater.  My first real dollar earned was operating the spotlight on Miss America at the time.  That doesn’t have anything to do with anything, but it’s a good memory for me.  🙂  The idea of having a strong, bright light that is up there somewhere in the rafters, on top of a building or a tower that is used to expose people or anything moving is very powerful in its imagery.  Staying with that image, in business we tend to turn on the searchlight for the extremes; attempting to find those who are soon to be in trouble, or those who have been sought out for recognition. Either way, having the use of a searchlight (metaphorically) to better our businesses is  a great tool to have.

John tells us in Revelation that he saw Jesus and His eyes were “bright like flames of fire”.  In 2 Chronicles those same eyes are searching the world for those fully committed to Him. I see those eyes as searchlights looking for us in order to strengthen us and lift us up.  Some see God as scary and so judgemental that the idea that He is  searching for us is intimidating and worrisome.  Yes, He is searching, but not for those reasons.  His eyes of light are there to strengthen us.  I’d like to think that today each one us can carry on for God in searching for others who need to be encouraged and strengthened. As the song yearns out, “Give me Your eyes”.
