day 1476: Preambles

“I baptize with water those who repent of their sins and turn to God. But someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not worthy even to be his slave and carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

I was reading about the power of a preamble, or as many will call it, a mission statement.  When we use a preamble, we are calling others to action and trying to get others to align with what we are proposing.  Some companies are great at this and can get the best of the best talent to join the company, align and work hard for success.  Others, never get past this point and struggle to nail down their preamble.  We all need our preamble, or our mission statement, that not only attracts others, but also one that sets the objectives and goals for the company to create focus.  When was the last time that we revisited our preamble to be sure that we know where we are going and how we can get there?

When John the Baptist came before Jesus, it was the greatest preamble of all time.  John the Baptist set the stage for Jesus, preparing those who would soon meet and know Him in the flesh. We learned that there were none who could replace or be what Jesus came to be for each of us.  Even today, we are His preamble for many people who have never met Jesus.  Each day and in every way that we act and speak, we are setting the stage for those that we interact to get to learn to more about Him.  Today, let’s consider and ensure that we are creating and delivering the most effective preamble we can.
