day 2629: Double Jeopardy Hunting

“The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!

Jeopardy James has fallen.  Actually he lost his Jeopardy streak back in March and we just found out on Monday night (best kept secret…who knew that could still happen?).  James Holzhauer made his bid to become the all-time Jeopardy money winner by playing the game like no-one else had ever played it before.  He was so confident in himself and his knowledge that he’d start with the $1000 or $2000 questions (harder and more nuanced to the category clue) and then build up larger amounts of money in his winnings and then go Double Jeopardy hunting so he’d have bigger bankroll to bet. If successful at that strategy then it became impossible for anyone to catch up because there wasn’t enough money left on the board for others to beat his totals.  It all worked until someone else had a perfect game too.  Emma Boettcher took him down by beating him at his own strategy.  It was fun to watch this streak and it also should remind us that in all that we do there are those who are working through different and new models to compete and it is those who figure out how to match their talents and skills with strategies that multiple their efforts and results who are the ones who win.  We have both those same ingredients in our businesses, we just have to take the time to know what we have that can be competitive and then look for the ways to make our strengths become formidable because of how we dare to be different with what we have.

God has given us each talents that we get to daily decide how to utilize in our work and lives.  We are not given strategies or roadmaps on how to best deploy those talents, but we do know that if we take what we have been given, put them to work for the excellence and glory of God, that they can be multiplied and yield greater than what we could ever imagine. God does not want us to play this game of life tentatively.  If He did, the parable of the servants would reward the servant who just buried the one talent and kept it safe and sound.  We have to ask ourselves, what talents and strengths do we have that we haven’t been using as confidently and aggressively as we should?
