“Thank God for this gift too wonderful for words!”
I find myself saying to often, “I have to”, when in reality, I seldom have to, but rather choose to. Last week in Techcrunch, James Altucher (@jaltucher), wrote an article on ways to be productive. As part of that article, he wrote about the importance of changing our attitudes from “have to” to “get to”. When I first read the piece, I missed this, but the second time around it hit me like a ton of bricks. Because, when we change out one small word it can change our total outlook on anything that we are going to do. Later this week I am traveling to a Memorial Service. I have been saying to myself and others, “I have to…”. But in reality, I get to go celebrate a man’s life, spend time with my Mother, see some old friends and be reminded that life is short, precious and a gift. One word change and it all gets better. Maybe we should all give it a try and watch how things improve.
God has given us so much and yet we might still be saying, “I have to spend more time in His Word”, or “I have to pray more”, or “I have to go to church this week”. But, just change the word from have to “get” and then we are realizing and accepting God’s gifts to us!
