day 2211: Where Do We Like To Dwell?

“After all, what gives us hope and joy, and what will be our proud reward and crown as we stand before our Lord Jesus when he returns? It is you! Yes, you are our pride and joy.”

In January, Fast Company posted a bunch of work facts.  One that caught my eye was where we spend our time when on the job.  What they found in their survey of Managers was this:

71% report daily to an office

23% work from home

4% work from a co-working space

2% work from “Other” – their cars maybe?

So, as much as we want to think that the office is dead, it isn’t.  We are still office dwellers. I believe that we will always have offices, if for nothing else we are going to always drift back to places that can give us a feeling of affiliation and comradery.  Sure, there are those who work from their homes and are connected online all day long by Skype, Google Hangout or some other technology, but even then as human beings we need other humans around us.  So, it is on us to make our office dwellings places where we want to be; not for food, foosball or to just fraternize, but for productivity, efficiency and ability to work to our full potential.  It is when this is achieved that people feel best about their work, teammates and their surroundings.

Paul spends a lot of words and time in the New Testament teaching others on how to create churches where Believers can congregate for worship, teaching and discipleship.  If we want to work with others throughout the week then why do we not want to be in the House of the Lord when it comes to church time?   Something to think about this weekend as we consider where we like to dwell.
