day 2175: Fault Lines

Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.

Our organizations are filled with fault lines.  At each turn, if we look hard enough, we can see a possibility of failure and breakdown.  No matter how hard we attempt to put in place process that cannot fail, there will be fault lines.  Why?  Well, because our processes are built upon people and the dependence upon them to do what they are supposed to do, each and every time. is flawed thinking.  Be honest, we know ourselves well enough that if we can’t be counted on to be perfect then why would we think that others can also be perfect?  But, we are quick to point out the faults of others, when in fact, the fault lines are not about the individual, but about the collective of all of us in our inability to be perfect.  So, maybe give someone else a break today when they fail because guess who might be next on the receiving line?

Man, it’s easy to point the finger and find fault in others.  This is not what Christ desires us to do.  True love that comes from Him is about giving those allowances and letting grace lead before accusation and finger-pointing.
