day 1584: Help Wanted – Part 1

“He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few.”

The magazine US News & World Report listed the 11 college majors that are in demand as there is an increase in hiring in these areas:

  • biomedical engineering
  • biometrics
  • forensic science
  • computer game design
  • cyber security
  • data science
  • business analytics
  • petroleum engineering
  • public health
  • robotics
  • sustainability

The good news is that many colleges report that their students are expressing interest in studying in many of these fields.  10 years ago when I was at EA we made the financial contribution to the University of Southern California to create the first game design bachelors degree and now a decade later that profession is in the top 11 of all professions.  Even younger is the idea of data science, sustainability and cyber security.  It makes us have to stop and think, what will the next decade produce that isn’t around now.  The future is hurtling towards us.  What are we doing to ensure that our talent is ready for what will come next?

Jesus told His disciples that the harvest is not decreasing and that it is great, and the numbers of workers remain few.  And today, that remains.  The Kingdom of God expands daily and what God is telling us is that the only thing holding back the harvest from increasing is more of us who are willing to surrender and give ourselves to His work.  As we consider what is in front of us today, let’s remember that He’s keeping His “Help Wanted” sign up and in front of us at all times.
