day 1575: Coffee Lattes

“So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.”

I like to drink lattes over just straight coffee so when I heard another advantage to having a latte, I was intrigued.  Apparently, research shows that people tend to not spill lattes as much as they do a plain cup of coffee.  And why would this be?  Well, it’s because the foam on the top of the coffee adds surface tension and the increased viscosity slows the movement of the coffee.  This finding has caught the attention of others and now the oil and gas industry is considering adding a foam layer on the top of shipments of oil and gasoline to lessen the chance of a spill.  What does this have to do with anything that we might do every day, other than help us not spill our coffee?  Well, if we think of the foam of a latte metaphorically, we might find that with a thin layer of softness on top of the hot, potentially scalding, and fast moving communication and work that we do, that things could get better for everyone.  Imagine that we put a little foam on top of everything we do and all of the spillage that could be avoided!

God’s grace is something special over each us and has been poured out on us.  May we today pour that same grace on others.  It may be that it is God’s grace today that softens and protects someone who is in dire need of just that.
