day 3K210: LaMDA

“Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever!”

LaMDA stands for “Language Model for Dialogue Applications”.  These are software applications that allow us to converse with the machine in a way that feels natural, free-flowing and yes, authentic.  And, across many, many topics. There are numerous questions as to whether or not the machines can/will become sentient.  If they do, will we even be able to tell the difference between a human and the machine?  We can get all freaked about it, or we can learn more and see if we can utilize LaMDA for our business. The more we know, the more educated we become and even the more forewarned we will be.

Languages are a topic of the Bible.  Going back to the Tower of Babel through the gift of speaking in unknown languages, the Bible references the power of language.  We are even told not to use foul and abusive language.  We spend a lot of time learning languages; spoken, written, coded and unspoken to live and succeed in life and work.  But, it is a good reminder that none of these matter if we don’t know and communicate in the language of God’s love.
