day 1474: Digital Vacations

“He told them, “This is what the Lord commanded: Tomorrow will be a day of complete rest, a holy Sabbath day set apart for the Lord”

It’s not often that we see a company take vacation of its’ employees as seriously as the car maker Daimler does. This past summer they offered email blackouts to their employees who are on vacation with a program they call, Mail on Holiday.  When someone is on vacation, all emails that come in are deleted, or sent to a designated alternative person (poor person having to get 2X the number of emails).  This program was very positively accepted and provided Daimler employees a new level of vacation rest. What do we do to help employees on vacation get away? If we are giving vacation time, then we probably should do all we can to get the most from the time off to rejuvenate.

If God rested on the seventh day, then we can do so as well.  Giving one day a week to God and leaving the things that take away from our focus and attention on Him can multiply the rest and peace that we seek. How about this weekend, on Sunday, we leave the keyboard and the screen alone? Game?

if you do, I’d love to hear how it goes.
