day 2245: Radical Hospitality

“As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home.”

A friend who works in the theater industry was telling me that he heard the actress Anna Deavere Smith say that for the art form of theater to survive against the competition of other entertainment mediums that theaters would need to commit to “radical hospitality”.  It got me thinking that in our businesses we would be better off if we all committed to the same concept.  Want to win talent, customers, partners over and beyond out competitors, we can if we commit to and practice radical hospitality in all that we do.

Jesus went to the home of Martha receiving her gift of service and hospitality.  He called her out as an example, leaving us with knowledge of her gifts.  How hospitable are we to others in our workplace?  Have we given it much thought today on how we can be at the service others in a way that sets us apart because of our following of Jesus? It might a great day to be a radical!
