day 2160: On-Demand

“Never stop praying.”

The last couple of days have been, to say the least, interesting.  My wife Patti was admitted into the hospital for what we later found out to be a foreign object that has perforated her colon and had moved outside of the colon and was causing inflammation.  It’s a longer story and as I write this we are waiting for her to be called to surgery to remove whatever she ingested and put this behind us.  What I have learned in these days of sitting at the hospital is that while everything around us in the tech world is transferring the power to us so that we can have just about anything “on demand”, the business of healing and healthcare is far from on-demand.  It’s hard to imagine any other place where the consumer has to be this patient (maybe why we are called patients) and powerless, and accept it as the best alternative they have.  Medicines take time to show an effect.  Doctors and nurses need time to do their rounds and interpolate information to make their best decisions, bodies need time to rest and time to heal.  Some parts of life just aren’t made for on-demand thinking.

However, God invites us to not be afraid to turn on our on-demand with Him when we are in these times. He has given us the gift of prayer and tells us that we should use it often, freely and even continuously.  We called out our prayer warriors and friends over these days and couldn’t feel more covered and blessed. It’s really assuring that God is always there for us and loves to be on-demand.
