day 2300: Another Business Review? Really?

“A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them.If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward.

Whether it is a Business Review or a Board Meeting, we usually aren’t all that excited about stopping what we are doing and compiling the data and results into a presentation, which when we give we aren’t sure what the reaction will be.  We might have some indication when the times are good, but even then we might run into, “Why not bigger, better or faster?”  While not what we might call fun, these reviews are actually pretty good for us. They make us stop, think, and sharpen our pencils (if you will) and come to conclusions about where things stand and what we need to do next.  We shouldn’t look down or think these meetings to be distasteful, but instead look at them as a great check on our thinking, progress and next actions. There are smart people on the other side of the table.  We should use those smarts when we can.

Jesus gave us a parable to tell us how we should be acting when in between “reviews” or being overseen.  He holds us to high standards, but understands when we don’t reach them.  What He does expect though is that we operate in our work and lives as if we would be in a constant time of review. Do we think that way in our jobs and roles, or do we just do what we have to do to get by and only reach up to what we really can do when it’s time to be reviewed?
