day 2235: Sincerely,

“Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him.”

There was a time when we ended our letters, even our business letters, with “Sincerely”.  Some still do, but it’s not a word of our current generation.  Think about it.  When was the last time you saw an email that ended with this sign-off?  It might be that sincerity takes more courage today than in the past.  When we state that we have sincerity about a topic or towards a person we can come under scrutiny and challenge to defend just how sincere we really are.  Sincerity was one of Benjamin Franklin’s “13 Virtues” that he wrote down somewhere around 1730, while he was in his late 20’s. At that time, a young adult such as Franklin considered sincerity as a life virtue.  Today, we struggle for what it even means.  Franklin wrote, “Use no hurtful deceit; think innocently and justly, and, if you speak, speak accordingly.”  A little more sincerity would do us good right about now.

Was there anyone more sincere in their life than Jesus?  We can model sincerity by sincerely following His life example.  There many around us today who are starving for someone to be sincere with them.  Let’s use today to show them what it truly means.

Sincerely,
