day 2199: “Where Is That Car?”

“But even before I was born, God chose me and called me by his marvelous grace. Then it pleased him to reveal his Son to meso that I would proclaim the Good News about Jesus to the Gentiles. When this happened, I did not rush out to consult with any human being.”

I woke up this morning and wondered where my car was?  So, after a run, my devotional time, grabbing a bite to eat, and catching up on the news, I sat down and opened up my phone and logged into my car app to see that it was parked on a street on the west side of San Francisco.  I knew I would need it later that evening so I made sure that I scheduled it from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.  After that, I logged off and went back to doing some emails.  Really?  Well, not really, today that it is.  If one wonders where their car is today, then that opens up all kinds of other questions.  And since the car needs me (or someone else in the family) to operate it and tell it where to go, it will stay right where we left it until we return.  But, this is not soon to be the case.  Our cars (if we actually even own one) will move on their own, responding to many owners, or even reacting to the programmed software that returns the car to its’ owner, or more likely a charging station when the battery needs to be replenished.  How far off is this science fiction fantasy world of autonomous self-driving cars?  Not decades!  Maybe even only years…

We get up every morning and start moving around like the self-operating cars that I predict above. But what if we instead thought more that our bodies and lives are actually God’s vehicles that He wants to move to His direction, but all He is waiting for is us to turn the controls over to Him?  Imagine where today He might take us if we just gave up a little of our autonomy?
